Slip ‘n’ slide kickball joins other JPRD activities at Bell Tower Festival

A new event, slip ‘n’ slide kickball, will be part of the Bell Tower Festival this year.`

Slip ‘n’ slide kickball is a lot like regular kickball, but the bases are children’s swimming pools and the base paths are tarps.

Games will be Saturday, June 11, at Kelso Park, with check-in at 1 pm and play starting at 1:30 pm. Teams of 10-12 players are suggested. All ages are invited. Play will be in two divisions – age 13 and younger, and age 14 and older.

There is a $20 per team charge. To help in planning, pre-registration is requested at the Greene County Community Center.

Slip ‘n’ slide kickball is sponsored by the Jefferson park and recreation department.

JPRD is also hosting other events that have become Bell Tower Festival favorites.

The Ding Dong Dash will start the day Saturday. Check-in is from 7 to 7:45 am at the Community Center. The 1 mile untimed “fun run” will start at 8 am, with the 5K and 10K races starting at 8:20.  The routes begin and end at the Community Center. Complimentary refreshments will be available after the 5K and 10K races.

Runners in the 5K race will compete in 10 age divisions for males and females; there will be six age divisions for the 10K race. First and second place medals will be announced after the 10K race at the Community Center.

The registration fee is $30, with a $5 discount for those who register before or on June 5. There is an “immediate family” discount of 20 percent for groups of four or more immediate family members. The registration fee includes a performance sleeve T-shirt while supplies are available.

A double elimination bags tournament will be held Friday, June 10, with team check-in at 5:15 pm and play beginning at 6 pm. Two-person men’s, women’s or co-ed teams will compete in the same tournament. Participants 13 and younger will play in their own division. The tournament will be held at the northwest corner of the courthouse square.

There is a $20 per team entry fee. Pre-registration is appreciated but not necessary.

JPRD and Spalding/AAI will again partner for a 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Saturday, June 11, at Russell Park. Team check-in starts at 12 pm with games beginning at 1 pm. The tournament is for ages 15 and older. There is a $15 charge per player.  Pre-registration is appreciated but not necessary.

Registration forms for all four activities are available at the Bell Tower Festival page of the Greene County Chamber of Commerce’s website.
